“Tuning an engine is
the act of restoring it to it’s originally designed factory
specifications”.
That one sentence alone has become the trademark and the basis for the work we do at Glassic Boatworks. Ever since 1987 when I graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College with a degree in Gas and Diesel engine technology, I have never forgotten that statement. One of the most misunderstood aspects of marine engines is horsepower. People tend to think, the more horsepower, the more speed. Not necessarily true. It is torque that delivers the punch in the marine engine more than the horsepower, but weight is a major factor also!! When you upgrade engines for instance from a small block 350GM to big block 454’s the biggest factor you must take into consideration is the weight to HP ratio. Today’s 350’s are designed to produce HP in the 270-330hp range, whereas the 454’s produce roughly 330-360hp. But when you add the added weight of the big block, you could very well be countering the end result of increased speed. The main key to speed is not as much the horsepower the engine produces, but the amount of torque it produces at the prop. In every aspect of engine work we do, whether it’s tuning one up for the season, or a complete re-power, Our goal is to make your engine perform as it did the day it was installed or better. At Glassic Boatworks, we pride ourselves, in listening to what it is you as a boat owner desire to accomplish, and then provide ways both economically and practically feasible to get you where you want to be!.
